How far have things come?
According to data extracted from the RUSA data-base by IanH, augmented by a few rides late in 2012 that had not been entered on RUSA data-base at the time of the extract, through the end of 2012, a total of 359, 916 official RUSA kilometers have been credited on Permanents and Perm-Pops that start in the "Old North State".
The following is a chart by year of rides completed, official RUSA kilometers credited, and the official elapsed time to ride those perms and perm-pops (and also a couple statistics for each year).
year | rides | kms | hrs | k / ride | kph |
2012 | 685 | 106,944 | 5,495.7 | 156.1 | 19.5 |
2011 | 711 | 108,899 | 5,559.5 | 153.2 | 19.6 |
2010 | 482 | 82,511 | 4,205.4 | 171.2 | 19.6 |
2009 | 140 | 28,266 | 1,463.8 | 201.9 | 19.3 |
2008 | 80 | 16,846 | 851.9 | 210.6 | 19.8 |
2007 | 59 | 12,556 | 588.4 | 212.8 | 21.3 |
2006 | 18 | 3,894 | 187.6 | 216.3 | 20.8 |
total | 2,175 | 359,916 | 18,352.3 | 165.5 | 19.6 |
I was surprised to see that the number of completed rides and credited kilometers in 2012 were less than in 2011.
In coming days, I'll try to publish a report or two (or three) regarding which permanents and perm-pops were ridden in 2012, with comparison to previous years.
For the curious that may be wondering about the route and the identity of the pioneering local randonneurs mentioned in the first sentence of this post: (1) the route was Blackbeard's Permanent, and (2) the intrepid pioneers were a certain MikeD (RUSA #1609) and one JerryP (RUSA #3525).
