Sep-13: Vantastic's 103-km Perm-Pop

Vantastic's All Day Cafe 103-km Permanent-Populaire, or
We Found a Good Place for the Ride-to-Eat Crowd, or
Bahama Beach (reversed)

Mick/Mike had previously discovered Vantastic's All Day Cafe in Creedmoor.
[A Google-search revealed several links, but none had any information about the menu, hours, or prices.]

Checking the time and control closing time in Stem (6-miles (10-kms) up the road),
We decided to try it for some breakfast.

Omelet, you choose the ingredients from among onions, peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes, cheese, several meat options, apparently same price regardless of number of "veggie" ingredients -- extra charge for bacon (I think it was the bacon), with Hash Browns or Grits and Toast or Biscuit for sides.  $4.99, if I recall correctly.  You'll have to ask Mick/Mike about the price of the coffee.

My omelet was excellent, as were the hash browns.  The biscuit seemed home-made and not pre-packed and unfrozen.  [Mick/Mike, having stopped at Van's once previously, kept telling me the hash browns were excellent.  That was before we received our plates.  He was correct.]

Nice place for a stop on "BB", or any time, really.  Basic, down-home breakfast.  I didn't check the menu, but I assume basic, down-home lunch, and basic, down-home dinner / supper.  [Hmmn, maybe a late afternoon / early evening "BB" as an excuse to check out the dinner possibilities?]

I suggest, however, stopping there when doing "BB" in the "standard" direction, not "reversed".  We made the control in Stem with only about 12-minutes to spare.  Stopping at Van's on the "standard" direction, the next timed control is the finish -- unless you spend about 3 hours eating at Van's, you should have no concern about making the finish control in a timely fashion.

Oh -- we also had a great ride on an absolutely perfect day.
Only thing was that after Creedmoor, we had to ride at "digestion pace" for quite a while.

We also made a de tour off the course just south of Bahama.
To check the view from the ridge-crest on Wiley Mangum, and
Also checked out "JayJay's horses and duck / goose pond".
All was in order.

I hope we get a severe-clear day on a day when I'm doing "BB" later this autumn.
You know -- after the leaves turn,
And I'll make the de tour up to the Wiley Mangum crest again, and
Drift back down to the course.
[The total half-mile round-trip is worth it.
That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.]
